Dumbing Down South Carolina
Well, he did it again. First Gresham Barrett votes against the new GI Bill and now he is one of only 58 voting against H.R. 4137: College Opportunity and Affordability Act of 2008. 354 Representatives, Republican and Democrat passed the Bill in the House, and in the Senate it was passed unanimously and unanimous includes both of South Carolina’s senators. What is Mr. Barrett thinking of? Does he want to cripple higher educational opportunities for South Carolinians? Does he want to make to impossible for our sons and daughters to compete on a national scale? Does he want to discourage corporations from coming to South Carolina, corporations that need an educated populace in the work place? We need a change. We seriously need a change.
Gresham Barrett grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth and was taught to only care about big money and big business. He wants to suspend capital gains taxes so that the big businesses that got us in this financial crisis and continue to hammer down the working people and increase their wealth in leaps and bounds. He cares for no one except himself.
Lavelle is absolutely right, and I hear it more and more everyday from people I work withthat grew up with him and went to school with him. The man is running for the GOP nomination for SC Governor in 2010, who wants an absent represntative that is in all 46 counties back home for the nest term while we have serious issues at hand that put us on the brink of another depression? Jane Dyer know what hard work means, she understand us common folks because she is one of us. When Jane is elected I hope she will attack issues like the head of APPLE that has a salary of $1 and a bonus of $40 million because the bonus is taxed at 15% instead of the higher tax on salaries like we ordinary folks must pay. When Greshem was running for office in 1994 and 1996 he often used words like citizen legislators and term limits, when have you heard him mention that last???? My vote is for Jane Dyer!
Barrett is set to vote for the Bailout today after voting against it last week. At a time when this country faces the most serious financial problems since the Great Depression, we need a leader and not a follower. His staunch belief in a wide open free market, no oversight and that suspending capital gains taxes will solve this huge problem have apparently evaporated when reality set in. His beliefs would have let the financial markets of America come to a screeching halt: payrolls unmet, jobs lost, businesses closed. Apparently, he is a great follower. However, what we need now is a leader. That is why I am running for US Congress.
I’ve supported GB in the past, but he lost my vote today with his flip-flop on the bailout. I (and other conservatives as well, I believe) simply do not believe it was the right thing to do. I cannot vote for him again this Nov. - need more info on why I should (and probably will) vote for JD. I searched out this website after learning that he changed his vote… JD - if you reach out to disillusioned conservatives like me that are disgusted with Gresham for supporting this huge boondoggle, I think your chances will be greatly improved.
GB has spent his time in congress doing exactly what Bush told him to. I believe that it was the lack of leadership and belief that government should stick its head in the sand that got us into this mess. I would not have minded them sticking their heads in the sand except that us hard working Americans kept paying taxes. As an airline pilot, we have rules and policies that keep us all out of trouble and we appreciate every single safe landing. It is time for the congress to accept their responsibility for oversight and develop reasonable regulations that ensure that the banking, insurance, and mortgage industries never have the chance to take the working American to the cleaners again.
Thank God for The Honorable Gresham Barrett. Please refresh yourselves on the facts before voting this November. He is not for government entitlements, he is for self-reliance. The economy will rebound when the comsumer gets breaks and the consumer gets tax breaks when “Big Business” gets tax breaks. If a business gets taxed, and our corporate tax rates are among the highest in the world, then the consumer pays more for the product because of the tax (see “The Fair Tax”). Our companies are going overseas because of high taxes. And reguardless of what some think… Conservatives can think for themselves. If you don’t like his self-reliant policies and would rather have “Government can take care of it for me” policies, and since when has the government done anything right, then vote for Ms. Dyer. She seems to know how to handle your life better than you. It is your choice. But please, don’t take my word for it, do your homework.
